Wyldheart Ancestries

Compare the four ancestries confirmed for the Wyldheart public demo without inventing traits, rankings, or class restrictions.

Wyldheart’s public demo offers four ancestries: Freefolk, Mossling, Grimhorn, and Stonefolk. This is the October 2026 demo roster. March Alpha previews described three choices, and the base game’s older Early Access text can still show that earlier count, so use the live Demo 0.7.2 creation screen for any mechanical detail beyond the confirmed names.

Current ancestry index

Demo ancestry

Mossling

Version: 0.7.2

Confirmed: official name and availability.

Choose after checking: current creation-card text and how you want the character to look.

Demo ancestry

Grimhorn

Client: Demo AppID 4475270

Version: 0.7.2

Confirmed: official name and availability.

Choose after checking: the active card rather than assumptions based on body size.

Unknown here: universal durability, strength, or party role advantage.

Added by the public demo roster

Stonefolk

Client: Demo AppID 4475270

Version: 0.7.2

Confirmed: included in the official four-ancestry demo announcement.

Choose after checking: live description and displayed effects.

Version note: absent from several March Alpha summaries.

The index deliberately leaves unverified trait and stat fields blank. A name, silhouette, or older press description does not prove a numerical bonus in the public demo.

How ancestry fits with background

Ancestry and background are separate choices. Select ancestry for the identity and any effects the current screen actually displays. Select a background for the origin, starting tools, or proficiencies that shape the opening. Neither choice should be described as a permanent class because Wyldheart later lets you spend points across flexible skill trees.

This separation is useful when comparing two characters. If they have different opening equipment, the difference may come from background rather than ancestry. If they use different weapons later, that may come from loot and skill allocation. Change only one choice between test characters if you want to understand what ancestry itself affects.

Do not assign roles from appearance alone

A taller or broader body does not automatically prove more health, a larger hitbox, greater reach, slower movement, or a melee restriction. A smaller body does not prove stealth or mobility. Read the current interface and, if necessary, compare the same action in the same build with the same equipment.

For a useful comparison, record the ancestry, background, displayed creation values, starting equipment, demo version, and platform. Then test a short repeatable route. Do not mix conclusions from Alpha footage, the closed Beta client, and Demo 0.7.2 as if they were one build.

Pick for a solo run

For solo play, start with the character you can read and enjoy. Pair it with a background that supplies familiar equipment or a clear survival plan. The opening dungeon teaches several systems at once, so an understandable starting kit is more valuable than an unsupported ancestry tier claim.

If you are testing mechanics, keep appearance and roleplaying preferences intact and change the background first. That often produces a more visible opening difference. If the live screen shows an ancestry-specific effect, choose a short scenario that actually exercises it before deciding whether it matters to your run.

Pick for co-op without forcing a class composition

A four-player party does not require four different ancestries. Coordinate actual capabilities instead: who has a light, who can answer distant threats, who carries recovery supplies, who is watching for interactions, and which weapons overlap. Skill and equipment choices can change those jobs during the campaign.

When a friend joins later, explain the current objective and share useful gear rather than judging the ancestry label. Drop-in play is meant to be flexible. The strongest party is the one that communicates supplies, positioning, and route decisions, not the one that imitates an unverified ancestry meta.

Why some guides list only three

The March 2026 press Alpha publicly showed Freefolk, Mossling, and Grimhorn. The October 8 demo announcement explicitly says the public demo has four ancestries, and its store description names Stonefolk as the fourth. Older articles can still be valuable for durable systems such as classless growth, but their roster count is superseded for the demo.

The base game’s future Early Access roster may change again. At the next build, confirm all names and effects before moving this demo list forward. Version labels are not clutter here; they are what prevents an accurate old page from becoming a misleading current one.
