Wyldheart uses real-time action combat inside a classless roleplaying system. The public demo lets you mix swords, axes, clubs, spears, bows, and magic from the Paths of Blight, Pyre, Rime, and Storm. Your ancestry and background may shape the opening, but they do not turn the character into a locked class. A dependable combat plan comes from weapon reach, stamina, positioning, equipment condition, and the skill or spell you can actually use in Demo 0.7.2.

Hands-on Alpha reports also describe blocking, parries or ripostes, kicks, stealth, enemy weaknesses, and breakable weapons. Those observations are useful training context, not a promise that October timing windows or balance match the March build. Check the current control and item screens before attaching an exact button, value, or universal counter to them.

Combat tool index

Close range

Swords

Confirmed: available weapon family in the public demo.

Use: learn the live weapon's reach, commitment, defense interaction, and condition.

Unknown: a complete item list or universal best sword.

Heavy options

Axes and clubs

Confirmed: both families are named by the official demo announcement.

Use: compare impact, recovery, and enemy response in the current build.

Unknown: fixed damage-type rules for every item and target.

Reach

Spears

Confirmed: a demo weapon family.

Use: test whether spacing keeps a target at the tip without exposing you to a group.

Unknown: exact thrust, sweep, or skill values across all spears.

Distance

Bows

Confirmed: a ranged family that can be mixed into classless builds.

Use: pressure distant or dangerous targets while watching resources and positioning.

Unknown: a stable tier rank after later balance patches.

Spellcasting

Four magic paths

Confirmed: Blight, Pyre, Rime, and Storm.

Use: acquire the required casting tool, learn a spell, then bind it through the current interface.

Unknown: final base-game spell lists and numerical scaling.

Establish a readable baseline

Open the current bindings before the first serious fight. Find movement, camera or lock-on, guard or defense, dodge, attack, interaction, quick items, weapon switching, and the skill or spell interface. The developer says controller play works but is still being improved in the demo, so describe actions by function until you have confirmed the labels for your device.

Choose one weapon and fight a single manageable enemy. Observe the wind-up, number of attacks, tracking, recovery, and the position where the sequence ends. Defend without immediately counterattacking on the first attempt. On the next attempt, add one short punish. This shows whether your opening is real and whether stamina or recovery makes the answer unsafe.

The same routine reveals a weapon’s identity more reliably than an isolated damage number. Record reach, speed, crowd coverage, stamina pressure, and durability loss. A weapon that hits harder can still be a poor choice for a narrow room or a player who cannot read its commitment.

Defense is a positioning decision

March Alpha hands-on reports mention parry and riposte actions, and the current demo visibly retains timing-focused melee. Do not reduce defense to “parry everything.” A close defensive answer may preserve pressure, while a dodge can reveal the rest of a new sequence or move you away from an area threat. Choose based on the attack you see and where you need to stand afterward.

Against groups, camera control and threat alignment matter more than winning a single duel. Move until enemies occupy a readable side of the screen. Avoid committing to a long attack while another threat is outside view. If a party member is already holding close attention, use reach, ranged pressure, or control rather than colliding with the same target.

Friendly-fire behavior was discussed in March preview play, but settings and rules need confirmation in Demo 0.7.2. Before a co-op dungeon, perform a harmless test near the start and review the current options. Do not carry an Alpha assumption into a high-cost fight.

Manage stamina and weapon condition

Stamina was a visible constraint in hands-on Alpha combat and remains a sensible field to watch in the demo. Leave enough capacity for the defensive action that ends your exchange. If a full attack string empties the resource and the enemy survives, shorten the string. Recovery is part of damage output because a character who cannot defend loses time, health, and position.

Weapons can degrade. Inspect condition after several fights and learn where the current demo lets you repair or replace equipment. Carrying a backup is not only a damage decision; it prevents a broken favorite from ending the run. Share duplicate tools in co-op so the party has coverage instead of one person hoarding every usable replacement.

Do not invent a durability rate from one weapon. Record the item, action, target, build, and repair method. Different equipment or later patches can change the result.

Add skills after identifying a problem

Wyldheart’s named branches are Adventuring, Survival, Dungeoneering, Weaponry, and the Oldways of Magic. Spend for a purpose you can describe. If stamina repeatedly ends your offense, look for a relevant current option. If a weapon cannot answer range, consider a different tool or a ranged capability. If dungeon interactions block progress, do not assume combat investment solves them.

The respec state is not safely documented for Demo 0.7.2. Read confirmation prompts and avoid spending every point simply because it is available. A flexible tree does not necessarily mean cost-free reversal.

For magic, learning a spell and casting it are separate tasks. Community questions show players learning abilities but missing a required Grimoire or hotbar step. Confirm the item’s requirement, equip a compatible casting tool, and use the live skill interface. Exact controls vary by input and can change with patches.

Choose damage by the target, not by a universal tier list

Independent preview play describes enemies reacting differently to attack or elemental types. Use that as a reason to observe, not as a complete weakness chart. Compare hit feedback, damage, stagger, and safety with two tools against the same target. If the result repeats in Demo 0.7.2, keep a versioned note.

Environmental hazards and narrow spaces can also be part of the solution. A trap that harms an enemy may save weapon condition, while a doorway can prevent a group from surrounding you. Confirm the hazard’s behavior before relying on it; party members may be affected too.

Build a co-op combat plan

Before entering a dungeon, state each person’s reliable range and recovery option. Decide who engages first, who watches the flank, who carries a ranged answer, and who has supplies. These jobs can change after a loot drop. Wyldheart’s classless design supports adaptation, so the plan should follow the actual kit rather than the background name.

Call out broken equipment, low supplies, dangerous floor effects, and a need to retreat. Do not advance the hex map or trigger a room while someone is in menus. If a player disconnects, stabilize the current area before testing whether the session can continue.

What must be rechecked after Demo 0.7.2

Reverify exact inputs, defensive timing, friendly fire, weapon families, damage types, skill nodes, spell binding, Grimoire rules, resource costs, durability, repair, respec, enemy scaling, and balance. The March Alpha provides public context, but it is not the current client. The future base game can change all of these again.

Start with the Combat Guide for a repeatable first-session routine. Use Systems for Hope, camp, crafting, and progression boundaries, and Multiplayer before testing party behavior.
